Design Concept

The first phase of the design process is the creation of a design concept or Schematic Design. During this phase, our architect will gather as much information as possible about what you need the home to do, your budget, your aesthetic preferences (such as sample photos, clippings and magazine pages), the site conditions (access, views, special features, etc.) and local code restrictions. After a few meetings, calls and exchanges of sketches, the architect will develop an arrangement of rooms and spaces that fulfils as many of your requirements as possible.

This Design Concept will show how the home is sited, how the rooms are generally sized and arranged, and will preview the way the timber frame fits in the building as well as the front and rear exterior elevations to show how the home is massed and the general style. This is the best time to make big rearrangements to the room layouts or to change the position of the building on the site. After everyone is happy with the schematic design, the process proceeds to Phase 2.
